Barry and Dale grew up on farms in Donnybrook and
Boyup Brook respectively and have owned Boronia Farm since 1988.
In 1990 concern about chemical use on the orchard near the house,
and for the safety of their young family, led to the decision to
adopt organic principles. This has been extended to their beef
cattle and the farm gained NASAA organic certification in 2000.
Boronia Farm also has one renovated cottage providing
farm accommodation which is popular for people looking for a rural
escape as well as families looking for a farm stay experience.
Barry and Dale see the farm accommodation as a great way to interact
with people who are interested in knowing more about organic
farming. The farm is 160 acres, surrounded by State forest and
about 40% of the land is native bush, including a large Boronia
swamp.
The farm is being developed on permaculture
principles, considering both economic and environmental
sustainability.
